Threading VS Waxing

We all want beautiful and precise eyebrows but when the time comes to choose between threading and waxing, most people a left with a dilemma. Both methods are fairly popular but not necessarily best suited for you. Waxing and threading are two completely different hair removal techniques. Want to find out what works best for you? Read more to find out!

What is threading?

Threading is the ancient art of skillfully removing hair using a cotton thread. The thread is wrapped and twisted around the stylist’s finger and each hair is plucked out from the follicle.

The benefits of threading include:

  • Precise: Threading is a very precise method of hair removal with less room for error compared to waxing.
  • Sanitary: The only thing required for threading is a cotton thread. A new piece of thread is used every time and there is less chance of any contamination.
  • Quick: Threading is a quick and effective method for hair removal. Eyebrow threading takes 5 to 10 minutes and leaves your eyebrows looking well shaped and natural.

The cons of threading include:

  • Discomfort: Threading may cause a little discomfort, especially if someone is trying it for the first time.
  • Limited to face: Threading is an ideal method for facial hair removal but is very time consuming to do on larger parts of the body.

What is waxing?

Waxing is a method of hair removal that uses soft or hard wax to pull out hair from the root. The two types of wax used for waxing are hard wax and soft wax. Hard wax is applied to the area where hair needs to be removed. It is removed once the wax is cooled down and the hair comes out with it.

Soft wax is of semi-thick gooey consistency. The wax is applied to the area that hair needs to be removed from and is removed using cloth or paper waxing strips. The hair sticks to the waxing strip and comes off with the wax.

The benefits of waxing include:

  • Not limited to face: Waxing can be used to remove hair from different parts of the body. Common areas waxed are eyebrows, upper lip, hands, legs, underarms and bikini area.

The cons of waxing include:

  • Time Consuming: Waxing is more time consuming and uses more product that takes some time to prepare.
  • Not Precise: Waxing has more room for error on eyebrows compared to threading. It also does not give a natural and precise shape to the eyebrows as threading does.
